Just around the corner....

It was so real...
My Dream...
And there was my Mom....
sleeping...
I woke her... asking questions...
And I did not understand anything that
 she told me...
So I kept asking...
Getting more and more confused
by her answers...
and then she told me...
I'll be going just around the corner...
Just around the corner...
I understood that clearly...
and then I awoke...
knowing that she IS just around the corner...
I know that she is here...
just around the corner...
because I need her to be...
And that is my never ending gift...
It is a JOY that I carry in my heart this
Holiday Season....
And I wonder why this dream came...
A gentle reminder perhaps...
A reminder that our loved ones are always
here...in our hearts...in our being...
That in itself is the greatest gift of all...
So be assured that amidst the hustle and
bustle of the Holiday Season we all
have everyone and everything we need
with us...every minute of each day...
Even if we can't touch them...
they will touch our hearts...
Just BELIEVE...

The History of Bayberry Candles...

"A Bayberry candle, burned to the socket,
puts luck in the home, food in the larder,
and gold in the pocket"

Legend has it that a gifted bayberry
candle will bring Good Luck
 and Good Fortune to those
who receive it.

Now a little history for you...
 Colonial women began the tradition
of boiling the berries of the bayberry
bush only to discover a sweet
smelling wax with a long clean burn.
One pound of Bayberry wax requires 15
pounds of bayberries, so these
candles were only burned on
 special occasions in colonial times.
And so the tradition began of gifting these
candles at Christmas time...

Because it was an extremely time
consuming and difficult process
it became less and less popular
 over the years.
Until 1926....
 Mabel Kimball Baker is recognized
as reviving this lost art
 by starting a very successful
candle business which began in her kitchen.

And so the symbol of the
Bayberry Candle
lived on...
Folklore for you....
~Many Christians believe that the light of
the Bayberry Candle will welcome the
Christ child in to their homes.
~According to colonial folklore
sweethearts who are separated at
 Christmas should light a
Bayberry Candle and be reunited by the
candle's gentle aroma.

Old and Everlasting carries a quality
line of American made Bayberry Scented
candles available in a box of two
complete with good luck poem.
A traditional Holiday fragrance
for all to enjoy this Christmas Season....

Where did you get those Glasses?????

Where did you get those glasses?...a
question I would hear often when

wearing a pair of eye bobs
 that I had purchased
several months earlier.

And I would say... they are eye bobs!
And what are eye bobs?
It's a line of super cool reading glasses
that we have been hemming and hawing
about carrying at the store.
Well the hemming and hawing is over
because they are happily
sitting on a shelf at
Old and Everlasting... waiting
for that fashion minded customer to
walk by and say "my these
are handsome glasses"...

Eye bobs are made with Optical Quality frames
from top grade Italian plastics.
Flexible hinges, high quality lenses, and
Style and Quality that far exceed other readers.
These frames can even be fitted with
your own prescription lenses by your Optician.
Imagine having that option....
Oprah loves them...
And we think you will too!
After all when it's time to wear
reading glasses why not have fun
 with it!
Our colorful shipment has just arrived!

Come find a pair that matches your
personality...
Sassy,Studious,Silly
or very Savvy!

New Kids on the Block...

OK so here is what's going on...
Mom and Dad have been talking and planning
about who they wanted to live in
the barn with me and Sophie...
Plans have changed and I guess
the two little girls Lilly and Loretta have
gone to live someplace else...
Darn!!! I heard they were really sweet
girls, and I was very excited about
 the whole thing.
They told Sophie and I that sometimes
in life plans change...
So they showed up Monday with some new
friends for us...
I guess Mom's and Dad's know best about things like this and I think they were right!
They are really pretty cool friends...
would you like to meet them?
But we have to tell you the whole story first...

As Hemingway says our new arrivals are
very special...
Sometimes you have to look far and wide for
the perfect match...
and sometimes matches are made in Heaven...
Well that is what happened with Hemingway
and that is also what happened with our
new friends...

Our first new friend lived in Connecticut...
someone for Sophie we thought...
She is "three" years old and absolutely
GORGEOUS...
Her first family has the same last name
as we do...
there were so many connections here...
so we listened....
and she was ours...

Her name is Trio...
an unique name given by her first family...
Trio meaning "three"... is a very special
number for all of us...
The plan was to meet in Massachusetts...
Tailgate to tailgate...
white truck to white truck...
 the transfer was made...
She was a good girl....

Come on Sweet Trio...
Just a few more steps...
Trio in the Toyota!
Next stop...back to New York State...
and look who was waiting for us...
Miniature Ponies...
They were so gentle and tame...
These beautiful creatures are used as Therapy animals...

Another greeter...her name is Phoebe...
ahhh...life is good for Phoebe...
how could this face not make you
Smile????

Our second little addition...
at that point a name had not been decided upon...
we had some thoughts but nothing seemed
quite right...
Time to get in the truck to head home...
it was a long drive...
over the hills and through the valleys...
and then we arrived...
We're home everybody!
Is this where we're going to live?
Here she is....and Her name is Helen...
A 3 month old Nubian named
after "Mom"
the name was just right because she
has a white patch on her head that looks like
a butterfly heart...
So many butterflies have been in our path
in the most unexpected places since we
lost Mom...
So Helen she was...
And beautiful Trio...
we call her Happy Trio...
she is so Graceful and quiet...
Trio is a Nubian/Oberhasli mix.
The best of two breeds...
and meant to be here...
Their first encounter...
meeting someone new is always
interesting....
Hemingway being Hemingway...
He WILL be the king of
the pasture...no doubt at all...
Hay makes everything better....
Munching away with
Helen and Hemingway...
instant friends...
We look forward to meeting everyone...
we are usually out on Sunny days here
at Old and Everlasting...
So we'll see you soon!

And we can't forget to Thank our first families...
they loved us and took care of us so well.

Thanks so much Sue and Michele...
we are thankful to have
found you and thankful
to have a new goat family to enjoy.

And an extra special thanks to Sue along with
friend Michelle who produce handmade
Goat's milk soaps.
Sparrow Soaps are now available
at Old and Everlasting...
made in small batches on the farm...

We'll be back with news about
our Fall Gathering at
Old and Everlasting....
Coming soon.....

Look who's here!

 All ready to go!
After a whirlwind trip to meet good
friends with a gift show in between,
the stage is set for our final stop.
...to meet Hemingway!
Luxurious shavings and a dog crate
will be Sir Hemingway's travel
 accommodations.

He lived in Massachusetts in a fairy tale
home...children...many friends..and much love.
Thank you Heather for getting him off to
a great start...he is a happy little guy
because of you...
He seemed to like his first class
seat...(-:
A little crying went on for the 4 hour trip
home but he settled down quickly....
this made a good first impression on
his new Mom and Dad.
We think he is a good boy...
Of course we have been telling many
stories of his arrival...as all good parents do.
A dear friend surprised all of us with
a sweet greeting on the fence...
Thank you Joanie...you have a new
friend now...
First steps in this new environment...
It seems nice here so far...
I guess I'll pose for a picture.
Well now...and who are you?
Wish we could hear what they are thinking.
Sophie meets Hemingway..
sort of...
Brooms are fun and they taste
rather good too...
Oh but this might be better...
Sophie meets Hemingway...
for real...
Butting heads...
I think in time it will be Hemingway
who is the boss...
Step aside Sophie...
Aren't I cute?
I think that I have won them over
already...
This might be quite nice here...
I overheard them talking...
I think I have some new friends coming...
Something about Lily and Loretta...
I guess I have to be patient...
At least I have the stall to myself for
a little while...
After two girls move in it will
never be the same...
I wonder if they are as cute as me?
I'll keep you posted...
In the meantime I am off to have some fun!

We're E-X-P-A-N-D-I-N-G....

Or should we say Expecting???
Thought you might like to see...
Being not very good at keeping secrets..
Here is a sneak peek of what's
arriving soon at Old and Everlasting...
Or should we say who....
Drum roll please...
Introducing...
The one and only...
Mr Hemingway!
Isn't he the cutest little guy you
ever did see?
And those amazing ears...
Well he won us over in no time at all!
And along with him, our expansion

includes two little girls,
Lilly and Loretta...
Stay tuned for photos of these sweet
little faces...
they are precious, and just perfect
companions for Mr Hemingway,

and our two old goats Sophie and Chester...

Yes, they are very old goats for sure!
Wonder if they will approve of the
young whippersnappers moving in?
Our barn family is expanding soon and
 we'll be back to share
 all the goings on...
And who said we wanted any company
in OUR barn?

ps...we have to keep an eye on Sophie
goat on the left...she has been known to nibble
on long graceful Nubian ears...
could be a jealousy
issue....(-:
